One of the leading families of the region owning large plantations.   Daniel  DeJarnette owned real estate worth $25,000 and 100 slaves, while Elliott DeJarnette (1788-1857) held the same amount of real estate and 57 slaves at his estate “Pine Forest” in neighboring Spotsylvania County.
